Southport Stands With Ukraine
The devastating invasion by Russia into the Ukraine has shocked everyone around the world.
The daily scenes of civilians and cities being attacked are heart-breaking. And it has left a lot us wondering how we can help.
A lot of donations have been collected in and around Southport. Our community has come together to donate items they feel would be best help to Ukrainians.
However, we would like to talk about and make as many people as possible aware of DEC, the Disaster Emergency Committee.
The DEC is made up of 15 leading UK aid charities to raise funds quickly and efficiently at times of crisis overseas. The 15 charities include The British Red Cross, CAFOD, OXFAM, Save The Children and other leading charities.
And while donating goods is welcome The British Red Cross and DEC have stated that cash donations are by far the quickest and safest way to directly help people and support workers helping refugees in Ukraine and neighbouring countries.
Cash is fast and flexible and can be used to help source whatever is needs locally and also means volunteers can concentrate on response rather than sorting through and transporting donations.
It is understandable that not everyone can donate money, but if you can The DEC is a great place to go to. You can donate here: https://www.dec.org.uk/appeal/ukraine-humanitarian-appeal
