Remembering Robbie Wilson
A Tribute Through the 3 Peaks Challenge
Today, 7th February 2024, marks the one-year anniversary of Robbie Wilson's untimely passing at the tender age of 30.
Robbie was a huge part of Birkdale Village and its community.
This week a memorial Bench to Robbie has been placed in Birkdale Village, (outside Headlines) as a place where family, friends and strangers alike can gather to reflect on his life and the joy he brought to the world.
Friends and family can gather not to mourn his absence but to celebrate his life remembering his adventurous spirit.
Money for the bench was raised by a group of Robbies friends and family undertaking The 3 Peaks Challenge.
This challenge mirrored Robbie's zest for life and his adventurous nature.
On 21st September 2023, to raise money for the bench, family and friends of Robbies took on the daunting challenge, a symbolic journey up Helvellyn, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon within 24 hours, channeling their love for Robbie into a monumental effort.
Ascending the rugged terrains of Helvellyn, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon in a race against time, they braved the elements, pushing themselves to the limits, just as Robbie would have done. With each step, they honoured his legacy, cherishing the memories they shared and the impact he had on their lives.
The group faced terrible weather conditions all day. However they persevered and reached their final climb, Snowdon. Half way up their final ascent on Snowdon, the group were told at 10:20pm during rain and 50mph winds that it was too dangerous to continue.
The group have promised to finish climbing Snowdon in the new year and are even considering making the 3 Peaks Challenge a yearly activity to remember Robbie.
“Robbie was more than just a name; he was a beacon of light to those who knew him. His infectious laughter, unwavering positivity, and boundless energy left a mark on everyone fortunate enough to cross paths with him. Whether scaling mountains or navigating the complexities of life, Robbie approached every challenge with unwavering determination and an unyielding spirit.”
The group want to thank everyone who donated towards their challenge and making his memorial bench possible.
Moreover, recognising Robbie's passion for supporting others, the remainder of the proceeds will be donated to the Andy Mans Club charity. Through this act of generosity, Robbie's legacy will continue to shine brightly, offering hope and solace to those in need, just as he did in life.
The group who participated in the 3 Peaks Challenge find solace in knowing that Robbie's spirit lives on in the memories they hold dear and the lives he touched. Though he may no longer walk among us, his presence remains with us.
Today, as we remember Robbie Wilson, let us not dwell on the sadness of his absence but rather celebrate the vibrant life he lived and the profound impact he had on all who knew him.
Please take a moment to sit upon the memorial bench in Birkdale and honour Robbies memory. Remember to embrace life's adventures with the same fervour and enthusiasm that Robbie did every day. In doing so, we keep his spirit alive in our hearts.
